Jonathan Horne
Managing Partner, LLB

Jonathan is Managing Partner and Head of the Real Estate Department.

Having qualified in 1980 he brings with him a wealth of experience in:

  • commercial and residential property matters, acting for a variety of companies, developers, and investors;
  • landlord and tenant work, including granting and taking of leases, and lease renewals under the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954;
  • lease extensions under the Leasehold Reform Housing and Urban Development Act 1993;
  • development and bridging loans, acting for lenders and borrowers, including mezzanine finance and bridging loan providers.

Jonathan has a wide client base & which includes a number of offshore property investment clients.

Outside of work he is a passionate Spurs supporter, enjoys travelling & a bit of golf (albeit his handicap is the clubs!). Jonathan is also a mine of trivial & useless random information!

Maxwell Eagle
Partner

Max studied Business Management at the University of East Anglia, before completing both the Graduate Diploma in Law and the Legal Practice Course at BPP Law School in London.

Max joined Sylvester Amiel Lewin & Horne LLP as a Paralegal, before undertaking his training contract and qualifying as a Solicitor. He became a Partner in 2017.

Outside the office, Max can regularly be found in the East Stand of White Hart Lane.

Adam Arnold
Partner

Adam is a Partner in the Property Department. He has particular expertise acting for borrowers and lenders in bridging finance transactions and also deals with all aspects of residential and commercial property transactions.

Prior to joining SALH, Adam trained and qualified at a Central London Law Firm.

He is an avid Spurs fan.

Sayuri Serasinghe
Partner

After graduating in Biomedical Science at King’s College London, Sayuri went on to study law at the University of Law and subsequently qualified as a Solicitor. She has previous experience in residential property and immigration gained at two London law firms. Sayuri joined Hook & Partners to complete her training as a solicitor. Since then, Sayuri became a Partner at Hook & Partners working in and helping to supervise the Commercial and Private Client Wills and Probate departments.

Sayuri joined Sylvester Amiel Lewin & Horne LLP as an Associate Solicitor and became a Partner in September 2024.

She is a dedicated legal professional with experience in commercial and residential real estate and private client matters. Sayuri advises both businesses and individuals on various commercial and real estate matters and on a diverse range of private client issues, including estate administration, Public Guardian matters, and Wills.

During her spare time Sayuri actively involves herself in many cultural events in and around London as a singer, dancer, choreographer, a volunteer and is involved with several Sri Lankan charities.

Sean Cartland
Partner

Sean qualified as a solicitor in 2017 after acquiring several years of experience within the legal sector, covering a full spectrum including conveyancing, litigation and media.

Following qualification, Sean turned his attention to specialise in both commercial and residential conveyancing, with a strong emphasis on first time buyers, off-plan new build developments, high net worth overseas investors and bespoke lending.

With any spare time available, Sean can be found in either the gym or training Maui Thai.

Simon Engelsman
Consultant

Simon has almost 40 years of experience in advising on secured lending and corporate and individual insolvency. His expertise includes:

Contentious and non-contentious aspects of secured lending including compliance and documentation issues, recovery and enforcement considerations and professional negligence and fraud claims on behalf of mortgage lenders. Simon has also acted as an expert witness on matters of Consumer Credit; Property related disputes; and Insolvency matters on behalf of insolvency practitioners, creditors and debtors with the emphasis on commercial litigation, including white-collar crime and directors disqualification.

Simon is a member of the Institute of Credit Management and the Insolvency Lawyers Association. Apart from providing in-house seminars to various clients, he is a regular speaker for a variety of trade and educational organisations.

Simon’s interests include music and football and is keen on keeping fit and skiing.

Simon is also responsible for managing and administering our branch office in Carpenders Park on behalf of Paladin Commercial Ltd a bespoke debt company authorised and regulated by the FCA and accredited by the Credit Service Association.

Richard Buchalter
Consultant

With more than 30 years’ experience as a Solicitor, Richard is recognised for his extensive knowledge of the short term and bridging finance market.  He advises such Lenders on the structuring, documentation and completion of residential and commercial transactions and is known for his ability to deliver swift, commercially grounded advice and for guiding lenders through complex secured lending transactions with clarity and precision.

Richard is a keen sports fan and a passionate supporter of Everton FC.

Joseph Miller
Consultant, LLB

Joseph trained at city firm Denton Wilde Sapte and qualified in 2001 into their Corporate & Commercial Department.

Joseph has significant experience in private transactions, especially in relation to mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, corporate restructurings, recovery and insolvency, equity financings, capital raising and general commercial transactions.

Joseph is a keen sports fan and spends much of his spare time playing golf, running and keeping fit. He is also an avid supporter of Arsenal FC.

Jacquie Moses
Senior Paralegal

Jacquie is a Paralegal with over 30 years’ experience in residential conveyancing having previously worked at Taylor Wimpey and both City and West End Law firms. Jacquie has been at SALH since 2001

Jacquie enjoys cooking, keeping fit & travelling.

Jay Lee
Paralegal

Jay studied Law at Durham University before completing both the Legal Practice Course and a Master’s degree in Law at The University of Law, London.

Jay joined Sylvester Amiel Lewin & Horne LLP in 2024. He has previous experience in Conveyancing, Litigation and Immigration gained at another London Law Firm.

Outside of work, Jay is a keen tennis fan and a self-proclaimed culinary genius. His free time is usually spent experimenting with new recipes, watching films, and attempting (with little success) to master his single-handed backhand.
